Fairfax, VA -- Corporate fleet and operational achievements, individual safety practices, and other leadership honors were awarded during the recent 69th Annual Conference & Meeting of Trailways Transportation System (Trailways) in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

Driver of the Year Awards: Scheduled Route Division honors went to Manjit Singh of Western Trailways of Canada, which is based in Delta, BC, Canada. Ron Pratt of Dixon Meyers Trailways in Rochelle, Illinois; and Warren Holmes of First Priority Trailways in District Heights, Maryland, captured Driver of the Year honors in the Charter & Tour Division.

Trailways honors individual drivers who have demonstrated professionalism and documented safe performance records. Criteria include miles driven, number of preventable accidents, and work attendance, as well as passenger, employer, and customer testimonials.

Trailways Fleet Service Awards reflect a ratio of miles driven by the number of recorded preventable accidents. Top honors in that category went to the following companies:

  • First Place, Fleet Safety Award for Excellence: Arrow Trailways of Texas in Killeen, Texas; and Susquehanna Trailways of Avis, Pennsylvania (less than two million miles traveled, Scheduled Route Division)

  • First Place, Fleet Safety Award for Safety: Capitol Trailways of Pennsylvania of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (over two million miles traveled, Scheduled Route Division)

  • First Place, Fleet Service Award for Safety: Atlantic Coast Trailways of Hagerstown, Maryland; Dixon Meyers Trailways of Rochelle, Illinois; Travel Mates Trailways of Harrisonburg, Virginia; ; Lancaster Trailways of Lancaster, South Carolina (less than two million miles traveled, Charter & Tour Division)

  • Fleet Service Award for Safety: Abbot Trailways of Roanoke, Virginia (over two million miles traveled, Charter & Tour Division)

  • Most Improved, Fleet Service Award for Safety: New York Trailways of Hurley, New York (Scheduled Route Division)

Adirondack Trailways of New York received an award for Four Generations Outstanding Motorcoach Service. Thrasher Brothers Trailways of Alabama received the Outstanding Operational Achievements award. Dean Trailways of Michigan received the award for Outstanding Employee Achievements.

Most Team Spirit awards went to Capital City Trailways of Georgia (Charter & Tour Division), and Arrow Trailways of Texas (Scheduled Route Division). The Leadership By Example award went to Burlington Trailways.

Ken Presley of Service Insurance Agency accepted the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year award. Frank M. Henry, Chairman of Martz Trailways & the Martz Group, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, received the Industry Vanguard award for his personal and professional accomplishments, influences, and leadership of Trailways and the indistry nation-wide.

Gale Ellsworth, Trailways President, said this year's annual awards for personal and corporate achievements reflect the standards for which the Trailways Organization has been known for nearly 70 years. "These achievement honors recognize individuals and companies that have demonstrated day-to-day exemplary dedication to passenger safety, security, and other high service ideals by which Trailways companies have always operated," said Ellsworth. "These annual awards remind our industry and customers that we adhere to standards that continue to sustain Trailways at the zenith of service delivery."
